Watercolor

Watercolor painting has evolved through the centuries. Contemporary watercolors are no longer small scale, low chroma sketches but are bold, large scale painting with a presence equal to paintings in other media. Since I began my career as an oil painter, large scale, high chroma watercolors were intriguing to me. My approach to watercolor is controlled, employing layers to achieve the final results. As a former abstract painter, I still utilize all the same aesthetic elements with the addition of a extra layer of recognizable subject matter. Realism for me is the best of both worlds.
